Concert Hall at the BJCC
The musical that took over Broadway for years and years is coming to Birmingham, Alabama, and you won’t want to skip out this experience! Wicked is going to be playing at Concert Hall at the BJCC for a little while, and one of those showcases just so happens to be on Friday 5th September 2025.

Stephen Schartz’s ingenuity and talent breach generation gaps, from beloved Disney films to unadulterated Broadway magic. The hit-making virtuoso who brought Godspell and Pippin to the world has now breathed life into Broadway-blockbuster Wicked, which comes to Concert Hall at the BJCC for the fall playbill.
Wicked smartly weaves bureaucratic criticisms, distinctive heroes, and unexpected tenderness within a medley of catchy showtunes!
The tale follows Elphaba, the adulterine daughter of the wife of Munchkinland’s governor. Despite her family and identity struggles, Elphaba makes it into the highly regarded Shiz University, where she rooms with social butterfly Galinda. The two polar opposites don't take to each other at first but soon become allies.
Unfortunately, things go downhill when Elphaba notices nefarious acts against the Animals, a sentient race often tormented by persecution. Galinda and Elphaba seek the Wizard for help, but the Wizard disappointingly offers little assistance. A unsatisfied Elphaba leaves the Emerald City to fight for the Animals, leaving everything else behind.
Meanwhile, Galinda(Glinda) climbs the social ladder, marries Fiyero, the Captain of the Guard, and pursues an influential lifestyle. Elphaba unwittingly wins Fiyero’s eye as he falls in love with her. Will the couple’s love blossom unburdened, or will Elphaba’s agenda push Fiyero away, and kill her?
Wicked kicked off its first debut in 2003 at San Francisco’s Curran Theatre. As its popularity spread, it broke into new locations year after year, achieving international acclaim with performances in London, Ireland, Mexico, Germany, and even Australia. Its potential to bring in audiences also prompted Hollywood producers to release a two-part motion picture based on the Broadway show, that released November 2024.
Wicked scored numerous awards during its heyday in the 2000s, including 2 Drama Desk Awards, 3 Tony awards, and a Grammy award for Best Musical Theater Album. The cast and crew performing at Concert Hall at the BJCC on Friday 5th September 2025 promise to deliver an epic performance.
