Ever since the play's creation more than 40 years ago, Les Misérables has gone from a short-lived musical sung in French running in Paris to one of the most top-rated and hit musicals in the entire world. Over the past four decades that the musical has been ongoing, Les Mis has been performed in 22 different languages, in 53 countries, and has been drawing in more and more theatergoers worldwide.
In March, the musical’s tour is expected to perform in a new location in Birmingham, where Les Mis will be performed in BJCC Concert Hall on Thursday 27th March 2025. BJCC Concert Hall was masterfully built and prepared as the leading entertainment venue of Birmingham, accommodating a well-crafted stage and seating setup that is sizeable enough to hold a musical of this standard, in addition to adequate amenities that can be found within the theater.
The musical is centered on the story of Jean Valjean, an ex-convict distressingly wanting to start anew after he gets away from the law. Valjean's entire journey, and the relationships he builds along the way, are staged with everything lyricized from the beginning to the final act of the incredible show. The West End musical being fully sung-through is a clever manner of execution that the musical has over other known Broadway shows, and is the main reason why every moment and act never fails in its objective of unveling characters' motivations in every word or note performed.
The musical is creatively executed and because of this manner, Les Misérables is also full of unforgettable ballads and anthems. Interestingly, even with the collection of tunes that can be heard in Les Mis, each role in the stage adaptation is given a chance to shine, with each discrete number given as much emotional depth as the rest. Not one single person who has attended Les Mis can forget Fantine’s “I Dreamed A Dream”, which brings with the ballad a heavy heart and has been used countlessly by acclaimed performers in modern cinema. “Bring Him Home” also emotionally creates one of the musical's best moments, unveiling the selfless heart of Valjean's character in a single absolutely incredible number.
